Ship ropes are mostly used in port and dock operations. It plays a towing role on the docked ships, and with the fixed rope, there is no need to worry about the ship being blown away in windy weather. Every time a ship is about to dock, it throws a rope, which is fixed to a bollard on the shore.
If you look carefully, you will notice that most of the bollard surface is relatively smooth, without the striation to increase the friction, we know that the more friction, the better the stability of the fixed, but the bollard surface is smooth, why?
In fact, the purpose of this design is because of the rope material, most of the ship's ropes are made of synthetic fiber rather than metal. This is also in order to better cope with the wet environment of the workplace, this material is non-metallic, so there is no need to worry about moisture and rust, and this material itself has good corrosion resistance and mold resistance, so compared with metal material it is more suitable for use as a Marine rope.
However, the wear resistance of the ship rope is less than that of the metal material, and the bollard adopts a smooth surface, without fringe treatment on its surface to increase friction, in order to better protect the ship rope from wear. Because the rope will be subjected to strong tension in windy weather, the rope will inevitably repeatedly rub the bollard, and the smooth surface of the bollard will reduce the wear degree of the rope with a small coefficient of friction, thus playing the best protection.
