The IWRC Structure of the Steel Wire Rope - Part 3

The disadvantages of IWRC wire ropes

1. Heavier: The metal core increases the weight per unit length of the steel wire rope.

2. Slightly less flexible: Due to the more rigid overall structure, at the same diameter, its minimum bending radius may require to be larger, making it less flexible than the FC rope.

3. Higher cost: The manufacturing process is more complex and more materials are used.

4. Requires greater winch force: Due to the increase in weight and rigidity, it requires greater power to drive it.

Main application fields

The IWRC structure is suitable for harsh working conditions involving heavy loads, high stress, high impact and multi-layer winding, such as:

·Crane main hoisting mechanism: especially large tower cranes, port bridge cranes, and crawler cranes.

·Mine hoist (shaft hoist).

·Large excavators and bulldozers.

·Ship mooring cables and towing cables (often of special structure, such as IWRC).

·Load-bearing cables for ropeways and cable cars.

·Applications in high-temperature environments.
